5th Lesson: Concerning Ship Parts (UWO)

Ship parts are your ship's version of equipment. Just as different equipment is worn on different parts of the body, different areas of the ship that can be outfitted with certain parts. There are six types of ship parts: studding sails, cannons, extra armour, special equipment, figureheads, and crests. In this shipyard, you can buy studding sails, cannons, extra armouring, and special equipment. But the experts here will be able to explain it better than I. Would you mind?

Instructor Alan: Your next lesson is about ship parts. I'd like to explain the carious types of equipment and the roles they play. When you are ready, meet me in front of the shipyard.

Shipyard Master: I've already spoken with them. They know what to do.

Instructor Alan: Thank you. Talk to each of the craftsmen and see what they have to sell.

*Talk to the Sailmaker first and click Buy studding sail.

Sailmaker: I deals with studding sails. There are studded sails for fore-and-aft rigs and for square rigs. Each has different effects. But for now all you need to know is that they increase your ship's speed. More studding sails can be fitted onto larger ships. Do you understand? If you'd like, I can go over it again.

Sailmaker: Good. I hope you will have a large ship oneday and I'd like to give you something to start you on your way. I'll look forward to the day you come back with a huge ship that can hold many studding sails.
(obtained small inner jib!)

*Next is the Weaponsmith. Talk to him and click buy cannon.

Weaponsmith: I'll explain cannons. Each ship can hold a set number of cannons. Smaller ship can only outfitted with a few cannons on each side, but larger ships can carry many-- even some in the fore and aft. There are also many types of cannon shot but its hard to remember all of them at first. You'll learn about them later.

*Talk to the Weaponsmith again and click on Special Equipment icon.

Weaponsmith: Next I'll explain special equipment. There are many different  kinds of special equipment, including some made for ramming other ships, some to help in Melee battle and some to improve the performance of your sails. Do you understand? Good luck. You seem to have an eye for sailing.

*Next is the Carpenter. Talk to him and click buy cannon.

Carpenter: I deal with extra armouring. Reinforcing your ship's armourin will help it to better withstand attacks. But keep in mind that thicker armouring makes for a slower ship. When selecting armouring find the balance that works best for you. Do you have any question? That's the spirit! Well, because you are just starting out, let me give you this armouring.
Keep at it and you'll be a fine sailor in no time. Good luck!
(obtained cedar plating!)

*Talk to Instructor Alan again.

Instructor Alan: It looks like you've hear all of their explanations. You should now understand the basics of ship parts. It looks like you hvae a few parts already. Just hanging on to them doesn't do any good. When you buy ship parts, don't forget to outfit your ship with them.

Note:
-ship parts
-buy and equip

Instructor Alan:
When you change ship parts, you have to pay a normal refittin fee, but it's cheaper than the cost of buying the parts. Do you have any question? All right then. Thank you for your assistance. I hope  I can count on you again.

Shipyard Master: No problem!

Instructor Alan: That's a good stopping point for our lesson.

*Go back to the academy now for the reward.

Reward:
-1000 Ducat
-40 Trade experience
